The revamp of the Indaba conference venue commenced in late 2023, along with several other major projects, including the new Amazon Room, upgraded guest toilets at the reception, and a new main guest entrance. With the venue already booked for a large conference that was set to take place at the beginning of December, the team worked tirelessly to ensure that the upgraded venue was ready on time.
Several significant changes were made to the venue, which included removing the thatched roof and incorporating the smaller Kgotla conference room next door. This additional space meant that the larger venue would be able to accommodate more delegates, which has been a demand in the Waterberg for the past few years. The new roof features dark exposed beams, while the raised white ceiling features a large chandelier that is the focal point of the room. The deep blue walls create a nice contrast with the ceiling and tiled floors, while the new navy blinds and curtains block out sunlight, making it ideal for presentations. Instead of a drop-down screen, the venue now has a painted white block on one wall that is ideal for screening all kinds of media, including films and PowerPoint presentations.
Further changes to the venue include newly upgraded guest toilets, and the addition of a new door on the one side that allows for the venue to double as a chapel. The exterior also boasts the new dark charcoal colour scheme of Shangri-La. A small thatched building has also been demolished which now offers a larger gathering space in front of the Indaba conference venue. The adjacent dining space at the Kraal will also be upgraded in the coming months with an exciting new look.
